Kendall Patrick is a girl on a mission.
The 21-year-old Ladysmith singer/songwriter wants women to know they have a choice and she's doing everything in her power to get the word out.
The Ladysmith Secondary School grad is a self-taught guitar player and classically-trained piano player who's been writing songs since grade 7.
Today, Patrick is majoring in voice in the Malaspina jazz program and she released her first album in 2007 – "House of Ink."
Last year, while she was still a student at LSS, Patrick wrote a piece for her drama class that has continued to inspire her to empower young women.
The beat poetry piece is called "The Girl Rant" and is an expression of her own awareness of the negative affect media and pop culture can have on teenage girls.
Patrick received positive feedback after performing The Girl Rant for LSS and became inspired to continue spreading her message.

Since last summer, when the ball started rolling on The Girl Rant, she decided to start a petition to get the poem noticed. She's still hoping to get play on Oprah and she's not giving up.
"The purpose of this movement is to spread awareness about the damaging influence the media can have on teenagers and to provide another option of acquiring self-esteem to as many girls as possible," Patrick says on her Rant website.
Patrick's brought a copy of her petition to the Beantime cafe in Ladysmith. There's also a copy of the petition, and an explanation of what it's all about, online at www.thegirlrant.wetpaint.com.
