Thompson and Venables, then aged 10, were jailed for the brutal murder of Manchester toddler James Bulger in 1993. The senseless killing shocked the world.
After spending eight years in prison, the pair were released in 2001 with new identities. There was speculation they had begun a new life in Australia, but authorities refused to comment.
"There are now media reports that the two boys, now men aged approximately 26 years, have been given new identities and have relocated to Australia," Mrs Cunningham said.
"Given the grave community concerns about this proposal, can the Premier assure Queensland residents that these perpetrators will not be accepted by Queensland authorities?"
Premier Anna Bligh couldn't give that assurance but vowed to find out.
