Depleted uranium (DU) has been found in the urine of
Gulf War vets as long as 20 years after exposure. A highly sensitive
test has been developed which can detect DU even when previous
screening has proven negative. This test may assist with unresolved
health claims.
We are all exposed to minuscule amounts of uranium every day. But it
would take over five tons of rock and soil to come up with a teaspoon
of the isotopic proportions of natural uranium. In contrast, the DU
used by the military is "depleted" by only one percent of the total
uranium. It remains highly concentrated.
Any form of uranium becomes exceedingly dangerous when burned, which
is exactly what happens when DU is used in weapons systems. The tiny
particles are aerosolized and can be inhaled into the lungs. These
soluble DU compounds then enter the bloodstream and from there reach
bones and organs. This DU can remain, literally radiating the body
from within, for years. ...

The findings in workers at the National Lead Foundry in Colonie, NY have nothing in common with battlefield use of DU. Note that the UN scientists doing field work in Boznia-Herzegovina are not wearing hazmat suits or even masks, yet they are digging up dirt containing DU penetrators that had been fired 7 years before. You are spreading propaganda -- that propaganda began with the Saddam Hussein regime who found that the peace activists that it invited to a conference in 1998 were easily persuaded with false information. Those activists have been filling the net with false information ever since. To learn about DU, go read the UNEP report - it is the first link at the following URL - there are other reports there too. Another message /57 lists the currently posted files which have excerpts from the actual files and records of prominent anti-DU crusaders like Douglas Lind Rokke and Leuren K Moret - they are not at all like the people that they claim to be when they give their lectures or appear on YouTube. Go learn for yourself, do not just take someone's word for it.

The UNEP report you cite states on several occasions that 'further study is required.' And does mention findings of DU particles in the air 7 years after the conflict.
You attack anti-DU crusaders rather than provide clear proof of the harmlessness of DU, or evidence mitigating the fear thereof.
If you were shown pictures of people clearing out asbestos without any hazmat equipment would you consider that as proof of its safety?
I am willing to keep an open mind, are you?
