Papadimos Candidacy Hitting Snags

According to Reuters, the plan for former European Central Bank vice-president Lucas Papademos- for many Greece’s last hope to survive this tragedy- to lead a Greek coalition government has run into trouble, delaying a resolution to the country’s political Armagedon. Sources in both parties said this was now in doubt and the two sides were looking at other options. ”The Papademos candidacy has hit problems that have to do with both parties,” one of the sources told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Publicly owned banks were instrumental in funding Germany's "economic miracle" after the devastation of World War II. Although the German public banks have been targeted in the last decade for takedown by their private competitors, the model remains a viable alternative to the private profiteering being protested on Wall Street today.

The Real Truth of Wars - Dr. Dahlia Wasfi

We have an obligation to every last victim of this illegal aggression because all of this carnage has been done in our name. Since World War II, 90% of the casualties of war are unarmed civilians. 1/3 of them children. Our victims have done nothing to us. From Palestine to Afghanistan to Iraq to Somalia to wherever our next target may be, their murders are not collateral damage, they are the nature of modern warfare. They don't hate us because of our freedoms. They hate us because every day we are funding and committing crimes against humanity. The so-called "war on terror" is a cover for our military aggression to gain control of the resources of western Asia.

This is sending the poor of this country to kill the poor of those Muslim countries. This is trading blood for oil. This is genocide, and to most of the world, we are the terrorists. In these times, remaining silent on our responsibility to the world and its future is criminal. And in light of our complicity in the supreme crimes against humanity in Iraq and Afghanistan, and ongoing violations of the U.N. Charter in International Law, how dare any American criticize the actions of legitimate resistance to illegal occupation.

Our so-called enemies in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, our other colonies around the world, and our inner cities here at home, are struggling against the oppressive hand of empire, demanding respect for their humanity. They are labeled insurgents or terrorists for resisting rape and pillage by the white establishment, but they are our brothers and sisters in the struggle for justice. The civilians at the other end of our weapons don't have a choice, but American soldiers have choices, and while there may have been some doubt 5 years ago, today we know the truth. Our soldiers don't sacrifice for duty-honor-country, they sacrifice for Kellogg Brown & Root.

They don't fight for America, they fight for their lives and their buddies beside them, because we put them in a war zone. They're not defending our freedoms, they're laying the foundation for 14 permanent military bases to defend the freedoms of Exxon Mobil and British Petroleum.

They're not establishing democracy, they're establishing the basis for an economic occupation to continue after the military occupation has ended. Iraqi society today, thanks to American "help" is defined by house raids, death squads, check-points, detentions, curfews, blood in the streets, and constant violence. We must dare to speak out in support of the Iraqi people, who resist and endure the horrific existence we brought upon them through our bloodthirsty imperial crusade. We must dare to speak out in support of those American war-resisters, the real military heroes, who uphold their oath to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, including those terrorist cells in Washington DC more commonly known as the Legislative, Executive & Judicial branches.

"If There Is No Struggle, There Is No Progress"

Frederick Douglass said

"Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are people who want crops without plowing the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both ... but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."

Every one of us, every one of us must keep demanding, keep fighting, keep thundering, keep plowing, keep speaking, keep struggling until justice is served. NO justice, NO peace.

To maximize profits, the military industrial complex needs wars and more wars

According to the National Priorities Project, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost the nation well over $1 trillion dollars, since 2001. The Iraq War cost is tabulated at $789 billion and the Afghan War is at $403 billion. Others, like one-time World Bank and Nobel Prize economist Joseph Stiglitz, argue the true figure for these two wars is closer to $3 trillion.

October Surprise, how Reagan really won!

Former Iranian President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr and Former Reagan-Bush Campaign and White House Staffer Barbara Honegger, attest to the October Surprise. Gary Sick wrote both an editorial for The New York Times in April of 1990 and a book on the subject. Sick a retired Naval Captain, served on Ford's, Carter's, and Reagan's National Security Council, held high positions with many prominent organizations, and wrote a recent book on US-Iran relations (All Fall Down). Sick wrote that in October 1980 officials in Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign made a secret deal with Iran to delay the release of the American hostages until after the election and in return for this, the United States purportedly arranged for Israel to ship weapons to Iran. Sick had interviewed a witness who saw members of the Reagan election team in Paris in negotiations with the Iranian government. According to Sick, Oliver North was the administration's scapegoat, taking responsibility to conceal the "treason" of Reagan and Bush.

Unmasking October Surprise ‘Debunker’

In his latest column, Parry examines the shocking career of a professional Islamophobe, Steven Emerson, who has exploited his ties to the national security complex to spread damaging misinformation across a broadening spectrum of subjects fromt the October Surprise to the Muslim Community Center planned for Manhattan by Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. Parry zeroes in on Emerson's disinformation about Imam Rauf that maliciously labeled the peaceful imam who wrote a book titled: What's Right with Islam is What's right with America -- as a scheming anti-American radical who defended terrorists including Al-Qaeda.

'We've Entered A New Age'

Nov. 11, 2011 is World Freedom Day

By
Steve Beckow

As a sovereign citizen of Planet Earth, I declare Nov. 11, 2011 to be World Freedom Day.

On 11-11-11, I invite all the people of the world to reclaim whatever freedom and power have been lost to them in all aspects of our common life – politics, economics, education, religion, relationships, medicine, and all other areas.

As a non-violent act of conscious resolve, I ask everyone on Earth to stop whatever they’re doing at 11:11 (local time) on 11-11-11 and spend one minute in silence, not working (unless in emergency services), not consuming, and not distracting ourselves.

Those who safely can I invite to come down to the center of the village, town or city to join with our brothers and sisters everywhere and spend one minute in silence, upon leaving which everyone will utter the simple statement: “This world is free. It has always been free. It will always be free.”

At 11:11 on 11/11/11 we’ll show each other how strong and universal is the desire on Earth to take back our political freedom, economic justice, religious tolerance, racial understanding, social harmony, and global peace.

Syrian troops stormed a restive neighbourhood in the rebellious city of Homs, kicking in doors and making house-to-house arrests in an area that has spiralled out of government control for nearly a week. Amateur video showed a large explosion in Baba Amr, a major centre of resistance, purportedly a tank strike, and people were seen running for cover as automatic weapon fire could be heard. In some of the first pictures to emerge of the aftermath of the fighting, some homes had been allegedly shelled and rubbish was piling up on the streets as collections were suspended by the fighting.

Occupy Movement Occupies a Foreclosure Auction with Anti-Foreclosure Team

Just before 11 am today- November 8, 2011, members of the Worcester Anti-Foreclosure Team (WAFT), homeowners Pablo and Shirley Travieso and family, and members of Occupy Worcester lined up in front of the Traviesos' two-story house at 24 Illinois St., drowned out the voice of auctioneer John Baker by chanting loudly, and blocked his entry to the property. The 44 protesters held signs and their chants included "Bank of America/Bad for America", "Banks got Bailed Out/We got Sold Out", and "What does democracy look like?/This is what democracy looks like!" The auctioneer, John Baker, acting for Bank of New York Trust, trustee for a bundle of mortgages in which this one was included, gamely proceeded with the auction at 11am despite the noise, and as there were no other bidders, the bank took back the house for $79,900. The Globalisation of Protest

By Joseph E. Stiglitz, Project Syndicate
he protest movement that began in Tunisia in January, subsequently spreading to Egypt, and then to Spain, has now become global, with the protests engulfing Wall Street and cities across America. Globalization and modern technology now enables social movements to transcend borders as rapidly as ideas can. And social protest has found fertile ground everywhere: a sense that the "system" has failed, and the conviction that even in a democracy, the electoral process will not set things right - at least not without strong pressure from the street.

Using all the tools at their disposal, activists in the Middle East have become as creative as they are daring in ensuring that their story is heard. The organization No Military Trials for Civilians, which was behind the previous protest, is once again using social media as a means of making their fight a global one. They have announced a second online protest taking place on Facebook tomorrow, as a part of their continued effort to bring to spread awareness about their cause.
In addition to the Facebook protest, the No Military Trials organization has also posted a call for international solidarity addressed to the Occupy Movement.

Occupy Movement Reaches Paris

Inspired by the 'Occupy' movement in the United States, French protesters have started their anti-corporatism protests in the heart of Paris' financial district, La Defense, Press TV reports.
Heeding the call of an online campaign, hundreds of protesters thronged at Paris' key business district to protest against uneven distribution of wealth and the current economic crisis in the European country.
"In France, people think that it's okay for us. It's not like Greece. It's not like Spain, but it will come here so we have to be aware," said a protester.
The protesters set up their camps despite efforts by the French police to force their way into the encampment and confiscate blankets and food.
"They took the people by their legs, taking them out and sometimes hitting them and then took the tents, breaking them," said another protester.
The demonstrators believe the harassment is a prelude to mass arrests.

Indian Governement Files Biopiracy Lawsuit Against Monsanto

Representing one of the most agriculturally bio-diverse nations in the world, India has become a primary target for biotechnology companies like Monsanto and Cargill to spread their genetically-modified (GM) crops into new markets. However, a recent France 24 report explains that the Indian government has decided to take an offensive approach against this attempted agricultural takeover by suing Monsanto for "biopiracy," accusing the company of stealing India's indigenous plants in order to re-engineer them into patented varieties.

He said the average customer in the case had $300 in overdraft fees, making them eligible for a $27 award — less than one overdraft charge — from the lawsuit.
