Resolution of the People's Assembly of Syntagma Square for a European Uprising (2/6/2011)

1. We are the ones doing the talking now! A call for a pan-european uprising on 5 June. Since 25 May thousands of citizens have inundated the squares of the entire country attempting to take our lives into our own hands. We have separate ideological starting points but we are united by indignation at what is happening, as well as our passion for justice, equality and dignity. We are separate, but we are and shall remain united!

 

Similar moves are taking place throughout Europe. On Sunday 5 June we are coordinating our steps across Europe and we are setting a rendezvous for 6:00pm at Syntagma, in all the squares in the country and throughout Europe. Our voice must be heard loudly everywhere:

 

-because entire peoples cannot be sacrificed to prevent penalizing investors - the debt is not ours and we will not pay it,

-because this political system making the poor poorer and the rich richer can no longer decide on our behalf without consulting us and must be overthrown,

-because we want to live with dignity from our work without the constant terrorism of unemployment.

-because those who plundered the public wealth must be punished

-because free and public health and education are inalienable rights for all,

-because the Medium Term Programme must not pass.

 

Organized misinformation does not frighten us. We will remain in the town squares until all those who created the current impasse - the IMF, Memoranda, "Troika", governments, banks, and all those exploiting us - leave and do not return with a different mask. We will continue to demonstrate collectively and in unison until "Turmoil shall fall on Hades, and the planking shall sag under the great pressure of the Sun."

Two undiscovered poems by Charles Bukowski

LA poet, Yvonne de la Vega has located two of Charles Bukowski’s “undiscovered” poems, which are published today in the Examiner:

Charles Bukowksi’s first generally recognized publication date is in the 1960s, yet citations from the early 60s exist in Sanford Dorbin’s early bibliography, and The Roominghouse Madrigals prints poems from the late 40s.
The fact is that Bukowski has published extensively in various small literary publications for over thirty years. These publications exist in small numbers and are difficult if not impossible to find. Fortunately, John Martin of Black Sparrow Press has managed to cull together these poems and stories over several collections, until catching up with his contemporary writings in the 80s.
The following poems are from the private collection of The Los Angeles Poetry Examiner’s, copied from Pearl-Number 14 Fall/Winter 1991 and have yet to be found elsewhere.

50,000 people in Syntagma tonight

According to From The Greek Streets:

According to corporate media and blogs, about 50,000 people participated in the rally in Syntagma Square. Thousands of people still there at the moment. Earlier the rally surrounded the parliament and a lot of demonstrators blockaded the gates. According to corporate media, police hesitated to attack to the people who blockaded the entries out of fear for riots from such a large crowd of people. So several MPs who had been trapped in the parliament had to leave the building from the back door through the national garden, while others had to leave the parliament after midnight, when the gates were not blockaded any more. People who noticed the ‘escaping’ MPs start chanting ‘thieves!’ ‘thieves!’. Earlier, professors of the University of Athens gave public speeches on the Propylea of the university in front of thousands people, supporting the rally of Syntagma. The speakers and the crowd marched from Propylea to Syntagma and merged with the ongoing rally there, while the people’s assembly of Syntagma Sq. carried on for seventh night.
