Student protesters attempted to burn down the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree which is given to Britain annually by Norway as a gift. Protesters jumped over the barriers surrounding it and set fire to surrounding plastic banners, cones to try and set the tree alight. Eventually the tree caught fire and riot police quickly moved in to attempt to put out the growing flames.
