Coming up Sunday is "Ram Dass Day," which was officially declared a city holiday by Mayor Christopher Krohn in 2001. Celebrated spiritual teacher (and WAMM member) Ram Dass—author of the classic book on Hindu spirituality, Be Here Now—was a conservative Harvard psychology professor known as Richard Alpert in the early 1960s. Along with Timothy Leary, he helped conduct the studies for Harvard's controversial psilocybin research project. Later he went to India and studied Hinduism, becoming one of the first Westerners to explore Eastern spirituality. Ram Dass' latest book, Love Here Now, was published recently, just in time to help us celebrate the day distinguished for his honor.
