Greek farmer protests close airport, highways

Greek farmers shut down an airport on the island of Crete and blocked highways on the mainland with protests Tuesday, demanding higher agricultural subsidies and pensions and lower fuel taxes.

Civil aviation officials said Crete's Iraklio Airport _ Greece's third-largest _ closed to traffic after farmers with tractors and heavy machinery put their vehicles in the airplane parking area.
