Lorca's remains to be exhumed

The family of Federico García Lorca, the Spanish Civil War poet, said it would allow officials to dig up a common grave in which he is believed to be buried, Agence France-Presse reported. Relatives of the poet told the newspaper El País that they will allow the grave, which also includes the remains of three other men executed by the fascists in 1936, to be unearthed. The relatives had opposed the opening of the grave, which is believed to contain the remains of two anarchist bullfighters and a schoolteacher executed near Granada. Nieves Galindo, the schoolteacher's granddaughter, petitioned Baltasar Garzón, a judge, to open the gravesite to verify that her relative is buried there. Laura García Lorca, the poet's niece, told El País, "Even if we don't want it to be done, we respect the wishes of the other parties involved."
